Lawrence News

Hello everyone! This is the first official blog coming from Lawrence, KS (far as I know)…..so these are tidbits that will hopefully be some food for thought:
  • Coalition building: Myself and Jim Vineyard are both working to bring the smaller groups together. Jim is the C4L precinct leader for Douglas County, and has undergone some training in the campaign “boot camp” so to speak.
  • Local issues: here in Lawrence, homelessness is on the rise. I am incensed to learn that last year city crews demolished a semi-permanent structure down by the Kansas river, built from scrap metal and timber. Michael Tanner, one of the homeless, posed this question to our brilliant mayor: “Is it legal for me, or any other homeless person, to protect myself from freezing to death?” The University Daily Kansan stated, “Mayor Mike Dever was at a loss for words.”
  • I am EXCITED about LibertyFest 2009 — right now we’re pinning down a date, followed by venue and fundraising. Here in Lawrence, hopefully I can recruit some bands!!!
That’s it for now – my computer’s about to die on the battery, and there’s a carpet replacement coming soon to my house, so I’ll sign off!!
In Liberty,
Sally
