A Tale of the Two Tea Parties

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

One Liberty Restoration Project member’s take on the tea party from last year and this year:

The Kansas City Tax Day Tea Party celebrated at the Community America Ballpark this past April 15 was completely transformed from last years tea party…and not in a good way. This years tea party seemed more like an organized, statist political rally unlike the organic, quite spontaneous, tea party rally from last year that I attended at Liberty Memorial.

There were a few reasons I had my reservations about attending this years tea party. First, this tea party was commercially advertised for months in advance. Second, if you wanted to have a table to help promote your organization, your cause, or yourself as a politician, you were charged $50. They also had suites available for those who were better off and could afford the upward cost of $350.00. Third, the tea party was held at a ballpark in the outskirts of western Kansas City, KS. How does having it in a confined area, such as a ballpark, help get the message the speakers were discussing out to the masses? You were literally in a bowl. And last, most of the people in attendance were fans of Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin. I’m sorry, but Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin’s views are opposite of those from which the original tea parties were started from. The Anti-FED, Anti-War, Anti-Left/Right Paradigm, Pro Sound Money, Pro Freedom, and Pro Individual stance originated from Ron Paul’s grassroots movement is where the original tea party started.

I went with the hopes of reaching a few new people to understand that taking on the Federal Government is the incorrect way to reach the change that they are seeking. Yes, I understand that the Federal Government has grown well beyond it’s limits, however, as Lysander Spooner puts it – “the Constitution has either authorized such a government as we have had or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case it is unfit to exist. “ Our mission then is to work on the local/state level and get the individuals in those offices to say NO to the federal government and work within the city’s/state’s own limits and power to take care of itself. Rallies once a year are great, but what are the tea party people doing the other 364 days a year to fight for liberties and freedoms in their own backyard?

The statist mentality at the tea party was almost overwhelming. I don’t believe that the people in attendance were ignorant by any means, I just think that they’re uneducated in certain areas. You can not be a libertarian and be pro-war. That is an oxymoron. You cannot fix a completely broken system, simply by saying no more taxes. There is not left or right paradigm, just as there’s no real difference between Coke or Pepsi. Voting in candidates as individuals who stand for freedom and liberty is one way to address getting the change you are seeking. However, the easiest way to take on big issues, is by starting on your city, county, state, level YOURSELF. Be pro-active in an issue. Keep your eye out for legislation up for a vote in your city council or by an entire city vote and make sure you take it on if it’s against what liberty stands for. ANY issue. I know many people that are rallying behind the freedom to vote for your local judges, legalize cannabis, ending eminent domain, putting at stop to the surveillance state, making sure no more taxes are raised on a local/state level, etc. People need to get out their and find an issue or two that they are passionate about and go fight for it!! Gather people together to protests, have weekly/monthly meetings about strategies for getting your issue voted on the way that you’d like to see it voted on. Go talk to your local city representatives, talk to your state representatives, state senators, and police department. Let them know that you’re a part of a group of peaceful people who just want to bring about a change towards liberty in your area. Localize, Harmonize, Educate, Active. Make your voice heard LOCALLY, because in the end, it will be heard NATIONALLY.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 10/22/09

Local Group To Hold Fourth Rally To Raise Awareness Of Federal Reserve Role In Nation’s Debt

Kansas City, MO. –  Liberty Restoration Project is a group that has built a reputation for being Kansas City’s regional organizers of the nationwide rallies in support of Oversight and Abolition Legislation regarding the Federal Reserve Banking System.  We will be rallying at 12:00 pm at the corner of Memorial Drive and Main Street on November 22, 2009.

This will be our fourth rally in support of congressional oversight legislation.  Our previous Federal Reserve rallies were titled “Ben Bernanke Angry Mob to Audit The Fed KC” on July 26, 2009; “Monopoly March to End The Federal Reserve Banking Scheme KC” on April 25, 2009; and “End The Fed KC” on November 22, 2008.

The Federal Reserve was established in 1913 by the enactment of the “Federal Reserve Act” under the guise of a needed “Central Banking system”. We dispute the legalities of the enactment due to the fact that the “FED” is a private bank that is not overseen by any branch of the US government. The Feds’ sole purpose is to serve as the banker to the government, manage money supply, supervise and regulate a large share of the country’s banking and financial systems, and print money. The FED prints money for a fee in exchange for government bonds, the fee’s assessed from printing money is generated by charging the American people an Income tax. All of the listed elements above were deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in multiple rulings.

Our goal is to raise public awareness of the unconstitutional actions of the Federal Reserve in hopes that our nation’s willingness to build toward a complete and independent audit of all financial practices of the bank and all recipients of currency issued through such practices; and to raise awareness to support the following federal legislation:
S. 604 – also known as the “Federal Reserve Sunshine Act of 2009″
H.R. 1207 – also known as the “Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009″
H.R. 833 – also known as the “Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act”.

LRP at the Buffalo, Missouri Tea Party

Monday, October 19th, 2009

This past weekend I was invited to speak at the Buffalo Tea Party.  After attending the Missouri State Committee meeting, Josh and I drove to Buffalo where we met some amazing people.  Below I have posted a write up about the event sent to me by Paul Beaird.

If you are ever in Buffalo, Missouri I encourage you to stop by The Mudd Cup on south Maple Street.  Grover, the owner, hosted the Tea Party at his business and I can honestly say he gave me the best cup of hot cocoa I’ve ever had.

Buffalo, Missouri hosted a surprisingly large turn out to its first Tea Party on Saturday, October 17, 2009. Organized by Grover Roberts, operator of The Mudd Cup on south Maple Street, this event was aided by the efforts of Steve Norris and Cliff Luber who had started a Tea Party organization in Camdenton, MO.

Beginning at 3:o’clock with food and get-acquainted time for residents of Buffalo, a handful of speakers began at 5:00 PM.  There was time for anyone else to step to the microphone and say what he thought about the direction of America and about freedom. The last person left at 9:00.

The invocation was given by Mark Kiser, who said, “We need leadership.  If we don’t give our lives to fight it, our children will live in tyranny.”

A count was taken at 3 times during the get-together.  With most people arriving in time to hear the speakers, the count ranged between 88 and 102.

Catherine Bleish of St. Louis spoke on the 10th Amendment to the US Constitution and its provision for the individual States to protect citizens by resisting federal legislation on behalf of the people.  Her impassioned delivery had people shouting in agreement.

Steve Norris of Camden spoke on the Mission and Education of the Tea Party movement.  One of his outstanding statements was, “Ethics and truth are the basis of everything.”

Mike Smith of the Fair Tax organization said, “Eliminate income, corporate and hidden taxes and you will encourage businesses to create jobs and this is what truly stimulates the economy.”

Cliff Luber spoke on the subject of private health care vs. government-dominated health care.  He inspired the crowd, saying, “Ronald Reagan restored Americans’ belief in themselves and in freedom.  We can do that here again with this movement.”

Herb Brownell spoke on Socialism and Fascism.  He cited examples in past and recent history to support his question, “Has there ever been a free election after a Marxist has gained the leadership of any nation?  Why not require that past US Presidents and members of Congress pay the national debt that they voted for.”  He spoke about the educational value of popular entertainment, when it is focused on freedom vs. government power.  He said, “I wish someone would make a movie out of Ayn Rand’s novel Atlas Shrugged.”

Ray Herron of Warsaw, spoke on the early Continental Congress, addressing the question, What can we do to turn the direction of our government around?  He concluded, “Hold every elected official accountable.”  In fact, it appears that one purpose for the national Tea Party movement is to be the local place any candidate needs to come to speak and answer questions that reflect the concern of citizens for the growth of freedom, instead of the growth of government.
Those of you who know Super Dave on Springfield radio had a chance to hear him in person.   A popular speaker, he said, “I have a 12 year-old daughter and I can’t tell her, You already owe $150,000 in government debt, before she even begins her adult life.”

There was spirited debate among some folks after the official gathering was over.  Plans were begun for Tea Parties to occur in Lebanon, Springfield and Bolivar.  Today’s event and the future events to come include Buffalo, MO in the growing non-partisan political movement that will hold office holders and candidates accountable to the Freedom Philosophy.
Thanks to Grover Roberts and all who attended.

Catherine Bleish to speak at the St. Charles Tea Party(volunteers needed)

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Hi folks, I wanted to let you all know I will be speaking at the St. Charles Tea Party on October 2nd about State Sovereignty.  They have spent over $2,000 on radio ads thanks to their generous contributors (no they are not an AstroTurf funded group, rather a rag tag group of patriots working like DOGS to make this happen!).  5-10 thousands are expected.

LRP will have a booth at this event and would love some volunteers to help sell t-shirts and pass out Midwest Liberty Fest fliers!  If you’re in the KC area, the Amtrak is a fun and cheap way to travel!  Please email Catherine@libertyrestorationproject.org if you are interested in volunteering for LRP at this event!
