Huge Real ID Victory in the state of Missouri. Shift focus to PASS act.

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Congratulations Missouri, your driver’s license is safe….for now.

From the Governor’s Website:

HB 361 -

Protects a driver’s license applicant’s privacy rights and limits use of an applicant’s personal information for other purposes

July 13, 2009 – Signed by Governor Nixon

The battle is NOT over, however. The United States Senate is trying to pass the PASS act which is essentially Real ID on steroids.

Here are some of the action alerts going around about the PASS act

The Real ID act is not even fully implemented, yet several Americans are finding it difficult to get a State Driver’s License under regulations imposed on the states by this Federal Law.

The Tenth Amendment to the US Constitution makes the State of Missouri capable of having its own criteria for licensing motor vehicle operators, and I hope that we can allow State Lawmakers the power of a common sense approach without unfunded mandates from Washington special interests.

Identification is an issue talked about from every bar, security firm, and governmental agency to science fiction novels and movies and even the Bible.  Many Americans believe that some requirements of Real ID or the discussion that it creates, could lead to unnecessary technological advancement controlling how human beings are identified and tracked through society.

Whether this fear is imagined or realized, the Real ID is not a step that the people are comfortable with, and some fear it could lead to unneeded databases of lawful citizens based upon information irrelevant to fighting crime or personal identification purposes. Despite promises from the former DHS Secretary Chertoff that Real ID databases will not be shared nor breached unnecessarily, or that it somehow fights terrorism or immigration, it does not require an identification to survive in the world undocumented, and you do not need a government license to commit acts of terror, so the only people volunteering their information to be shared in these highly networked databases are Legal, Lawful citizens.

The Federal Government’s guarantee of security when it comes to databases of private citizen information has proven improbable.  News stories from the past few years are full of reports of stolen or lost Federal Government data.  Even the President’s own Helicopter’s Plans was a risk factor earlier this year due to an information breach.

Missouri Senate Unanimously passes HB 361 to Repeal Real ID in Missouri

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Shortly after 5:00pm on Wednesday May 13, 2009, the Missouri State Senate took a vote on HB 361 to repeal the Federal Real ID Act.

After about an hour of interesting debate, that ranged from unfunded federal mandates, to constitutional infringements, to the political courage of the federal level government’s unwillingness to make it’s own Identification Card, to Senator Purgason’s recently deceased mule, the Senate passed the repeal bill unanimously 32-0.

Please contact your senator and thank them for their support.

Urgent Assistance Needed to Abolish the Real ID in Missouri

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

WE ONLY HAVE 2 DAYS THIS IS URGENT.

1. if you can come to Jefferson City tomorrow facebook me (Catherine Bleish) asap and we’ll get carpools arranged. Anyone in Missouri. We will have cameras. This should be fun.

2. I need someone to put together a sheet we can give to each of the senators regarding the importance of this legislation while we are in town tomorrow.

3. I need patriots to call Sen Shields (R) and demand, politely, that he put HB361 on the calendar TODAY. 573-751-9476.

4. I need patriots to call Sen Engler (R) and demand, politely, when HB361 IS put on the calendar that he get it on the floor for a vote TOMORROW. 573-751-3455. I received some static from their office earlier.

5. Please call Sen. Shomeyer (D) and ask him to talk to Shields about this – he was very receptive to us in the committee hearing. Thank him for his support. 573-751-7852.

NO MATTER WHERE IN THE COUNTRY YOU LIVE, WE NEED TO BE MAKING EACH STATE LEVEL 10TH AMENDMENT ISSUE, SUCH AS THE REAL ID, SOMETHING TO BE ACTED UPON BY THE NATIONAL GRASS ROOTS. Lets get the pressure on.

This died in Sen. Committee Last year. All we are asking for is a vote. The citizens of Missouri and this beautiful Union of sovereign states deserve to see how Missouri senators feel about this issue.

Ask Shields what interest he has in supporting the Real ID… I am quite curious, quite frankly.

peace and love,
Catherine

MO Real ID Update: KEEP CALLING SEN. SHIELDS, REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY SAY

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Here is the deal. Sheilds’ office has to put on calendar. Engler’s office has to put on floor to vote after it has been put on calendar (they hinted they might not have the time to get it on the calendar, btw). Both offices know that if this isn’t taken care of via phone today we will be there in person with cameras tomorrow. WE WILL ABOLISH THE REAL ID IN MISSOURI

Members of Liberty Restoration Project contacted Senator Shields’ office this morning, and were first told that the committee hasn’t released it, and sent to Senator Callahan, the committee chair.

This information was WRONG. We were told that this was due to an error in website updates, and then sent to Floor Leader Senator Engler’s office as manager of the calender. This was WRONG ALSO

Senator Shields is the one who has to “Send” a bill TO the calendar, and Engler “fits” it in for debate.

Do NOT Let staffers play phone tag with parliamentary rules as we did. Let them know that you know Sen. Shields is the current hurdle and that you KNOW that with one week left of session this bill NEEDS ON THE CALENDAR TODAY! Once on the Calendar, make sure Engler’s office knows it and fits it in!!

Click here for the current status of the bill
(it will say when on calendar)
If possible, record your calls!

Senator Charlie Shields’ office: (573)751-9476
Senator Kevin Engler’s office: (573) 751-3455

MO Anti-Real ID Bill Passes in Senate Committee for Debate on Floor.

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The Anti-Real ID Bill, HB 361, passed unanimously by all members present in a Senate Committee for debate on the Senate floor.  Testimony in support of the bill was given by Rep. Jim Guest, Catherine Bleish from LRP, and a representative from the ACLU.  No testimony was given opposing the bill.

The bill also received enthusiastic support from Sen. Jolie Justus from Kansas City.  Sen. Justus also recognized the five LRP members present in the gallery from the Senate Floor.  In addition, Sen. Justus agreed to be a guest on the Liberty Restoration Hour radio show with Catherine Bleish, details upcoming.

This is a major step for this legislation as it failed to make it through Senate Committee last year.  If this bill passes, Missouri would join the many other states that have passed legislation against Real ID, such as South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Montana.  Please contact your state senator and ask them to support HB 361.

KC District MO state Senator Justus, Vice Chair of committee passionately supports Real ID Repeal

Friday, April 24th, 2009

Yesterday, an action alert was posted about the Missouri Senate and HB 361 (a bill that recently passed the Missouri House to repeal the federal Real ID requirements for the state of Missouri).

Today I had a face-to-face conversation with Missouri State Senator Jolie Justus from the 10th district.  She is Vice Chair of the Progress and Development committee that will be hearing the bill.

She came to me to express her support for repealing the Real ID act in the state of Missouri.  She mentioned the requirements to obtain a driver’s license being overreaching for those who do not fit certain requirements or are unable to obtain a Birth Certificate.  She had also mentioned the Real ID act as an unfunded Federal mandate and how it was created out of a wave of Terrorism-related legislation.

She mentioned how she expressed these sentiments to Senator Callahan and looks forward to hearing this bill in the committee.

Continue your support of this bill by thanking Senator Justus (ask her to co-sponsor) and by asking these other Senators to support the bill’s easy passage from committee.

Sen. Victor Callahan (573) 751-3074
Sen. Jolie Justus (573) 751-2788
Sen. Jason Crowell (573) 751-2459
Sen. Brad Lager (573) 751-1415
Sen. Wes Shoemyer (573) 751-7852
