LRP Food Storage Co-Op (Trial Run)
Wednesday, March 4th, 2009The idea behind the food storage co-op is to encourage members to be in a food storage program by educating them on the topic and the sale of bargain, pre-packaged stored foods and to provide this service to our members as cost effectively as possible.
Using the newest food storage techniques, such as Mylar bags and Oxygen absorbers, it is possible to store grains, beans, and cereals for decades without deterioration.
These staples will be stored in sealed 5-gallon food grade buckets. Many buckets are thrown away daily by your local bakery, donut/pastry shop, wal-mart, sam’s Costco, etc… and can be salvaged by anyone willing to ask.
Before opening a full fledged co-op we would like to do a trial run of creating 17 of these buckets to evaluate the materials and process for preparing bulk quantities of stored food. This is on a first come first serve basis!
If you are interested in participating in this first round of food storage we will be purchasing the food on March 14th and assembling the buckets on the 15th.
To participate in our trial run AT COST you will need to do 4 things:
1. Choose the food you would like to store in your bucket (see chart below)
2. Donate the appropriate amount for that food to our chip in (see below) or via paypal (info@libertyrestorationproject.org)
3. Email Justin with the type of food you are requesting (so he knows what to buy) at jrwindett@gmail.com
4. Obtain a recycled 5 gallon bucket from a place of retail or other means.
