American Police Force: Interesting peek into a private company running US jails and local police
Tuesday, September 29th, 2009Again, getting information out as fast as possible, mostly highlights, etc…
Stories are breaking all over about the “American Police Force”: http://www.americanpolicegroup.com/index.html
Like how they drove into a city with “City Police” written on their SUVs with blacked out windows..

I called them earlier and the gentleman who answered the phone told me they had a contract they were negotiating to serve as the local police force and it fell through, but that is why they drove in with those cars, the decals have been removed…. uh…
Here are my initial concerns:
1. They sell weapons and equipment internationally ONLY… and yet they contract with local US cities to do policing? This seems like a conflict of interest for American Citizens to pay tax dollars into…
Here is a list copied directly from their website of the weapons they sell INTERNATIONALLY:
American Police Force (APF) offers the world’s finest products and services to the military, police, and security professionals. We present to you our comprehensive product category list:
Weapons & Equipment Sales – INTL ONLY

2.This appears to be an economic move with no thought about the current political atmosphere – bailing their own town out at the cost of…?
“Al Peterson, who is also Hardin’s superintendent of schools, wouldn’t release a copy of the contract. Bond holders have not signed off on the contract, which is being re-negotiated with regard to how $27 million in revenue bonds used to build the jail will be repaid. The bonds went into default last year.”

3.Who are they sharing and getting information with / from?
“APF draws upon their vast global network of highly ranked officers and government officials providing private investigative services unparalelled to any operation in the industry worldwide.”

4. Where does their funding come from? On the phone they told me they take NO tax payer dollars… but if you’re contracted with the government… don’t you get tax payer dollars? I am still trying to get a hold of their PR girl.
(I was directed to call this woman after calling American Police Force and it went to a cell with no voice mail set up. Someone please look up the other stories she has written? )
“On Friday, American Police Force announced its first local hire: a reporter for the Billings Gazette, Becky Shay, who has covered events surrounding the jail since its construction. She will be the company’s spokeswoman for $60,000 a year.
Shay said she intended to bring new transparency to the process, but declined to directly answer the first question posed to her: Where is American Police Force getting the money to operate the jail and build the training center?
“I know enough about where the money is coming from to be confident signing on with them,” she said.”
